If you’re looking for ways to keep your wood or parquet flooring looking as beautiful as new, you’ve come to the right place. At Vika, we have several years of experience in this interior design sector , so we’ll show you what this process entails, when you should do it, and when you should refinish it.

It’s a good idea to sand parquet from time to time, and to do so, you’ll need to understand the types of wood or parquet floors available, and which types are suitable for sanding and which aren’t.

Why you should sand parquet

Sanding parquet flooring without leaving home has become a simple task with very good results, and more and more people are choosing to hire professionals to do it.

The first thing you should know about why you should sand your parquet is that parquet floors include solid wood flooring, multi-layer parquet flooring, and veneer flooring. Solid wood flooring is made from natural wood and can be varnished and polished as often as you like. On the other hand, multi-layer parquet flooring is made from a top layer of natural wood and other layers of different materials. Finally, wood veneer flooring, which is the most economical natural wood flooring, cannot be sanded.

If you’d like to know how we do it, first, before you start sanding the parquet, you’ll need to protect the baseboards and corners with masking tape.

Next, we sand the area with an electric sander to remove the existing varnish. It’s recommended to use coarse (30) grit sandpaper, followed by fine (100) grit sandpaper.

Once the varnish has been removed, we’ll remove any remaining sanding dust before continuing. This task must be done with special care, as it is one of the steps that will ensure the floor is smooth and even after sanding.

To continue, we’ll use very fine sandpaper (120 grit) for the final touch-up. This is a quick coat of polish. When we finish this step, we’ll vacuum and thoroughly clean the floor again.

It’s very useful to use painter’s tape to mark the areas we need to reach. Before varnishing and as a finishing touch to the parquet planing process, we’ll apply a uniform coat of primer with a flat brush and then go over the coat again, going with the grain. Let it dry.

Once dry, we lightly sand and thoroughly clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth. Now, the next and final step is varnishing.

Sanding parquet in matte, gloss or satin

Sanding parquet flooring in matte, gloss or satin?

Once the parquet has been sanded, we can choose different finishes, including gloss, satin, or matte. By finish, we mean the desired level of shine for our floor. It should be applied once it’s completely dry, since it usually shines while it’s being sanded due to its moisture.

If we are looking for a matte finish when sanding the parquet, we must bear in mind that this type of varnish does not shine at all.

The price also varied depending on the type of varnish used, or the number of coats applied.

Can parquet flooring be sanded without removing the furniture?

Although it’s possible, it’s not at all recommended to sand parquet without removing furniture, as you need as much space as possible for a perfect finish. In fact, once the job is finished, you should varnish everything to ensure it lasts a long time.

How much does it cost to sand parquet?

The price of parquet sanding in Malaga ranges between €10 and €30 per square meter. It’s true that the price of parquet sanding can vary depending on factors such as the condition of the surface and the varnish used.

Sanding parquet or laying flooring?
